About Us

Our Beginning

Summerwind Jewelers was founded by Melvin Reisz in Ogunquit, Maine in 1972.

During the early years in Perkins Cove, Mel was a jack-of-all trades. He worked all winter long hand fabricating silver and gold bracelets, earrings, rings, and necklaces. Some people remember and still have a piece of Summerwind history in the form of his famous "Beaten Circle" collection. During the summer months he would be at the shop from sun-up to sun-down ensuring everyone that left that day left with at least a smile and admiration for the love he poured into his work .

Our Growth

Over the course of our 52 years in business we have moved, expanded, evolved, and grown far beyond the spark that ignited Summerwind Jewelers.

In 1978 we moved to a new storefront located in Commercial Alley, Downtown Portsmouth NH. During those years Mel learned the fine art of stone setting and complex fabrication. From there, he grew his team to include multiple talented goldsmiths and sales professionals.

In 1995 we moved to our "forever home" at 49 Market Street, Downtown Portsmouth NH.

Since then we have had two major renovations, a core team with over 65 years combined experience, expanded custom design and repair shop, and exclusive + premier designers.

Summerwind is honored to be a family jeweler in our second season of Reisz family ownership. Sara Reisz Sargent, Mel's daughter, has been our inspirational leader since 2015.
